Predictions and Projections after the first quarter…Nov. 20

So far this season has gone better than I think anyone expected. My pre-season predictions had the Bruins in 4th place in the East, but 3rd in points (Who didn’t have Montreal winning the northeast) . Things look a bit better right now, the Bruins have the best record in the Eastern Conference. They do trail the rangers by two points but have three games in hand.

The Bruins are on pace for 120.8 points, but since were optimists here we’ll round to 121. Here are the projections for the playoffs.

1. Boston Bruins – 121 points

2. Washington Capitals – 114 points

3. Pittsburgh Penguins – 114 points

4. New York Rangers – 112 points

5. Montreal Canadiens – 106 points

6. Buffalo Sabres – 96 points

7. Carolina Hurricanes – 95 points

8.  New Jersey Devils/ Philadelphia Flyers – 87 points.

These standing are what the current records project, obviously things change, and since so far I’ve done a pretty good job at this whole prediction thing, ill take another stab at the Eastern Conference.

1. Boston Bruins

2. Washington Capitals

3. New York Rangers

4. Montreal Canadiens

5. Pittsburgh Penguins

6. Philadelphia Flyers

7. Buffalo Sabres

8. New Jersey Devils

If you look at the ESPN power rankings at http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/powerranking you will see nothing but stupidity. TSN.ca has it figured out, I highly recommend checking out their power rankings.
